More space per euro and local life while keeping fast links to the centre.

The city's most exclusive residential district: quiet, safe and home to the most prestigious international schools.
Safety, language and community.
Safety
A calm city to live in; the most common issue is pickpocketing in touristy areas and on the metro, not violence.
Language
You can live perfectly well with just Spanish; Catalan is co-official and appears in administration and education.
International community
Neighbourhood associations, language exchange groups and civic centres make it easy to meet people from day one.
Job market
The leading technology hub in southern Europe, with a strong presence also in digital marketing, tourism and logistics.
International schools
British School, Benjamin Franklin, Oak House or SEK Catalunya among the best known; public pre-enrolment runs March-April.
Pets
Dogs and cats must be registered with the municipal census and microchipped; dog parks exist in almost every district.
Taxes
You are considered a tax resident after more than 183 days a year in Spain; the self-employed must register with the Tax Agency and Social Security.

Food and restaurants

Dishes worth trying
Paella and fideuà, escudella i carn d'olla, botifarra amb mongetes, crema catalana, pa amb tomàquet (served with almost every meal), and calçots in winter season.
Eating well without overspending
The weekday menú del día runs €10–18 (starter, main, dessert and drink). Food markets —Boqueria, Santa Caterina, Ninot— and neighbourhood bodegas are the cheapest way to try tapas.
Vegetarian and vegan options
A growing scene, concentrated mostly in El Raval and Gràcia.
Tipping
Not mandatory. It's common to leave the change or 5–10% for excellent service.
